Chapter 5 is all about evaluation on your topic, evidence and
the author/publisher of said evidence. This particular chapter was most helpful
to me. I had never given evaluation much thought before this, as it turns out
you should evaluate each source with some of the same standards but this method
cannot be completely applied to both digital and field evidence. For web sites
you should look at the domains to establish what or where it comes from. These come in the forms of edu for education,
.com for businesses or general websites, and .org for organizations. While
there are others the list would be too long to jot down. For social networks
and news groups it is best to do some background research on it before hand so
you can better establish credibility of the site. Through this process you can get good
information and you don’t have to worry about rechecking your site to see if it
is trust worthy or relevant. With field sources the best way to go about
finding sources for it is to ask questions. These questions come in the form of
asking about the particular source, are this evidence still relevant, and are
the people involved in the evidence even credible to talk about it. Through all
of this I now feel better qualified to evaluate my sources and don’t feel as
sheepish when it comes to research.
